Week 2 Part B: Business Research

 Princess Polly

Princess Polly is a clothing boutique. They sell trendy and fashionable clothing and they are an international company.

Their social media are in the left top corner of their website. They are on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. Princess Polly is very active on their social media and the last time they have posted on Instagram was 1 hour ago about the 30-50% end of season sale and are posting constantly on their story. On Instagram, they have 2 million followers. 

On TikTok, they posted 2 days ago from today showing an influencer wearing their clothing and putting together outfits to show viewers how their clothing could be worn. On TikTok, they have 225.7K followers.

On Facebook, they posted 2 hours ago of a model wearing a dress that is on their website. On Facebook, they have 440,032 followers.

On Snapchat, they posted 23 hours ago of a model wearing a dress that will be on their website soon. On Snapchat, it isn't possible to see how many followers they have but probably around the same as the other platforms, they are on. 

Princess Polly is very interactive on social media and posts pretty often on all platforms. It is interesting because most of the girls that they post on their social platforms are skinny, tan, and gorgeous, you really have to search to find some diversity on their platforms. I believe that this is maybe a tactic to have their target market be pretty girls because that is what they are constantly posting. They are on Instagram the most because this is where they have the most followers and they post on their stories very often. 


Ransack

Ransack sells vintage clothing and also carry vintage jewelry. They are local but they can ship internationally from their Instagram and website.

To find their social media you have to scroll to the bottom of the page, and the only social media that is tagged is Instagram. It looks like they only use Instagram. 

The last time they posted on Instagram was 1 day ago and the last time they posted on their story was 4 hours ago about the pop up they are having on the 13th of February. 

On Instagram they have 13.8k and they also sell straight from Instagram stories which is a cool feature to have instead of only using their website. 

They seem very interactive on Instagram but they should start posting on other platforms like Facebook and maybe make fun videos on TikTok about styling, similar to Princess Polly to bring traffic from all platforms, not just Instagram. 


Glossier

Glossier is a simple makeup company. They are an international company.

To see what platforms they are on you have to scroll the bottom and look for the social media logos. 

They are active on Instagram and have 2.7 million followers and the last time they posted was 2 hours ago about a painting someone made with a product of theirs in. It looks like they got a customer experience team and are posting about this on their story about 2 hours ago. 

They are active on Pinterest and have 95.4k followers. I can't see when the last time they posted but it looks like they are constantly posting. They post photos of people wearing their products and pretty pictures of the products they sell.

They are active on Facebook and have 381,411 Follows. The last time they posted was February 2nd about the blushes that are on their website.

They are active on Twitter and have 107.7k Followers. The last time they posted was 3 hours ago of a meme of the Weekends performance at the super bowl and said "What the inside of my makeup bag sees when I'm looking for that one lipstick".

The last platform they are on is Youtube. They have 135k subscribers and the last video they posted was 3 months ago of a get ready with me.

Glossier is very active and interacts with its followers often. They seem to have a big marketing team that posts constantly for them. The only place they can be more active is Youtube and Facebook. They also seem to be very diverse and inclusive which is refreshing to see.


Best Pizza and Brew

Best Pizza and Brew sells food like pizza, salads, sandwiches and etc. they also carry a variety of alcohol. 

They promote their app and also it looks like they are only promoting their Instagram on their website. 

They are active on Instagram and have 4,604 followers. The last time they posted was 3 days ago of 3 slices of pizza from their restaurant. They also posted on their story about 5 hours ago of a sticker that they sell at their restaurants.

They have a Facebook and they have 561 likes. The last time they posted on Facebook was November 23 about the $4 pints that they are selling at the variety of Best Pizza restaurants in southern California. 

It looks like they don't communicate too much on their social media and could be a lot more active. It would be cool to see some videos or some merch on their website and social media.


Wildflower Cases

Wildflower sells limited-edition iPhone cases. They are based in California but sell internationally. 

They are active on Instagram. They have 785k followers and the last time they posted was 9 hours ago about a new bear phone case they just released. They also posted on their story about the new case about 4 hours ago.

They are active on Twitter and have 39.2k followers. They posted 9 hours ago about their new case that came out.

They are active on Facebook and have 50,484 followers. They posted 6 hours ago about their new phone case.

They are not too active on Snapchat they have only posted twice. 

They are active on TikTok and have 15.4k followers. They posted 1 week ago promoting their peace and love phone case with a cute little video. 

They are active on Youtube and have 4.83k followers. The last time they posted a video on their youtube channel was 1 week ago of a behind-the-scenes video but they do not seem to have too many other videos on their channel.

They are also active on Pinterest and they have 22.1k followers. On Pinterest, it looks like you can buy a phone case straight from Pinterest which is interesting.

Wildflower seems to be pretty active on all social media but also looks like they are spreading themselves too thin with all the social media platforms they are on.

From what I discovered from my overall research is that every company that I have researched is very active on Instagram and a lot less active on every other social media. I find this is very interesting because I find Twitter and Facebook are popular for consumers but maybe not so popular for business owners. I also noticed that some companies may be spreading themselves too thin across all platforms and don't post that often on some but post very often on others. 

It is interesting to compare popular companies and smaller owned companies. You can tell that the smaller owned companies have maybe one or two people running their social media pages and this is why they have fewer accounts on social media. Comparing that to companies who probably have several people running every account each day. It makes me think, what if a smaller owned company invested in a marketing team to run their social media will they grow more traffic to their website or location.

I have found that Princess Polly can be a lot more diverse and comparing Princess Polly to Glossier it is a night and day difference in the diversity in the models they chose yet they both have around the same amount of popularity. I wonder if Princess Polly was more diverse maybe they would be more popular and more successful. Comparing Ransack to Best Pizza and Brew they are pretty similar in that they both are very active on Instagram but Ransack has a lot more followers because they sell on their Instagram stories. It is also probably a lot harder for restaurants to promote their business because people have to go to the location for them to make money so being active on social media is important.

In conclusion, it is very interesting to look at companies and their social media platforms. Comparing big companies to smaller companies shows where the company is at successfully but also looking at the company on Instagram compared to Facebook there is almost also a smaller following on Facebook. I have also found that being more diverse with your models can also really help you on social media.

  1. Hello Clare! Nice variety of businesses for research, I looked up Princess Polly and they definitely have a successful Instagram showing with 2 million followers! It has to be in the top fashion accounts for follower count I would think! It’s also a cool feature that Ransack has by selling through their Instagram stories, be interesting to see how that feature works and what accounts it’s available to! ( Real quick, I couldn’t click the business websites through your hyperlinks....I saw this on another blog I’m not sure why it’s not “clickable” but just wanted to let you know:)
